THIS IS A RARE LARGE / TALL VERSION.

HAND TURNED AND PAINTED WITH AN INDIVIDUAL DESIGN. COMPLETELY UNIQUE.

Kokeshi Dolls

Kokeshi dolls were said to be guardians of children and keepers of their souls, watching over the children as they grew up. There are varying stories relating to their origin and purpose – some say they were given by talisman to ensure the healthy birth of a new child, others say they were given out to school children as reward dolls by teachers. However, others say they were given to mark the death of a child due to illness, miscarriage or famine – and that the soul of the child remains in the doll.
